Makesure the missing message isn't in your Deleted Items folder. If the message has been moved incorrectly to this folder, select the message and then select Restore. If you're using the Outlook for iOS or Outlook for Android apps or a mobile browser, go to the Deleted Items folder, select the message and select > Move to folder > Inbox.
Ihave saved many emails in my sub folders over the years and I now see that prior to October 2019, they do not appear. The information in the folder says: "There are more items in this folder on the server". "Connect to the server to view them". I am connected to the server, however there are no prompts to steer my in any direction.
